I liked this movie. It had a great cast. The characters were pretty good. The story line was a tad slow to progress and didn't seem entirely natural. But the relationship between the friends was funny and realistic too. Worth a rent, not a blockbuster and not thrilling, but good. Not too bad - reah98
The cast is great, they did their best with the material. The characters are interesting and the events unfold at lightning pace- maybe too much so. Many plot turns seem forced, without enough development to make it logical. Some characters are so interesting it is too bad they are left without much narrative. You will enjoy this movie for sure, but also will leave with a feeling there are so much more that can be done with these group of great characters.Looks good on paper.... - cathyottawa
....attractive young cast, full of "up and comers" like Amy Adams, Mena Suvari, Tom Hanks' son Colin, and James Van Der Beek (doing his best Mathew McConaughey impersonation). Comparisons to The Big Chill. Characters that include the bride to be's ex lesbian lover, a Hollywood agent, and the groom to be's ex junkie father.
But it all goes wrong.
The biggest problem with this story is, there is no story. Nothing happens. When the lesbian lover, and the junkie father enter the picture, you think, "okay, now the story is going to get cooking". But it doesn't. Those characters go nowhere fast.
The other characters are barely developed, and we end up spending the most time with the most boring pair of all - the happy couple that are thinking of getting engaged. Will they? Won't they? Yawn. Who cares? Nothing but corny cliches about the scary leap into adulthood.
I can't even say this film "had it's moments". I can't think of one single redeeming scene. All jokes dropped with a thud. All drama was boring, or cliche, or just kind of dumb. All the characters were uninvolving.
Bottom line, this was dull dull dull.
