Worst movie ever? - codygarfield
Gets my vote for worst movie ever. This movie has no redeeming qualities. Bad script, direction, acting, costumes, set, cgi, etc. I could punch Tim Story in the face. I loved the FF so much as a kid. My love for the source material only serves to increase how much I hate this movie. Will Reed Richards and Sue get married?? Who gives a flying @#$%*. It's not even funny bad, it's just bad bad.As competent as a piece of cardboard. - FilmMonkey
When will studios and screenwriters learn not to rely on CG as the centrepiece of movies? There is an absence of urgency or emotional investment into this movie - owing to the fact that both the Surfer and Galactus are totally without personality and in the case of the Surfer, poorly animated. The only menacing presence comes from Dr. Doom but he only has a peripheral role.
There are too many characters, and thus too many plotlines that do not get developed or resolved (eg. Johnny realizes the value of committed relationships). In fact the CG are pretty second rate throughout, which is surprising.
On the plus side, the action scenes are solid and the cast of actors playing the fantastic four are actually quite likeable, though their characterizations were very uneven.
On a side note, what is up with Jessica Alba's eye makeup and hair color? Very distracting, and not in a good way. The fact that I noticed these things tells you how much trouble I had in connecting to this movie.Told Ya! - jimmy_bond
I called it. Read my review of the first FF movie. I clearly wrote that it was just a build up to a bigger and better sequel. And I was right. "Rise" is a superior movie to the first. It again captures the dynamic of the characters, gives us a new character, and thankfully, brings back Dr. Doom to his comics roots. Marvel movies have been very successful compared to their DC counterparts as of late and I believe the answer is in the storytelling. As spiderman and X-Men before them, FF2 has adapted plots directly from the page. Unlike DC, where the movies tend to stray from their comic roots. As such fanboys will know all about the surfer and Galactus, but new fans will have know trouble following along. The movie is a tight 1hr30m, and while that is short for a superhero action movie, it actually helps the pace of the movie and does not leave the viewer feeling shortchanged. Ita also forces the FF to have all the bickering and nice character moments at times of crisis which at times is quite funny. And that is what the FF movies have done well. The have made lighthearted funny movies. They make self referencing jokes and are acutely aware that this is a comic book movie. Superman does what he does for the betterment of others. Spiderman and Batman, out of guilt for what they did or failed to do. The FF just had the dumb luck of being hit with gamma rays, so why not make it funny? The real draw of the film is the Silver Surfer. He looks amazing and clearly the f/x budget was used on him as Mr. Fantastic stretching still looks bad. The surfer is under developed as a real character but his motivations do come through and there is a hint of a spin off. On the negative side of things I was mostly disappointed with the apperance of Galactus. The story wasn't about him so it didn't hurt the movie but the geek in me wanted to see it. But hey, thats what DVDs are for. But I wouldnt wait for DVD to see this movie. Enjoy.
