It was awesome watching this film with so many people because it was like riding a gigantic roller coaster, with everybody having a shared, hair raising experience. People were cheering like when Luke blew up the Death Star. The humor throughout was just right. By the end of the film, our senses were stunned as we dizzily made our way out of the theater, thoroughly entertained.exactly what you expect - vfxguy
There are a number of reviewers who criticized this film because of a string of unlikely twists and turns. I agree, a lot of the plot points don't make a lot of sense.
But that probably is not why you would want to see this film in the first place.
The action in this film is a lot of fun and very worthy of the original film in the franchise, which has been named the best action film of all time.
But like any good sequel, the stakes are higher, and the stunts are wilder. What hasn't changed are the elements that work: using a major holiday as a background for the emotional tone of the film, a super-smart easily-annoyed mastermind, and location, location, location. As previous films tended to highlight one place, this film becomes a James-Bond-like romp across the entire east coast.

It’s a tough call. Am I to review its cinematic merits? Or simply how much I enjoyed it? Because truth be told, it was absolute and utter foolishness. But it was so much fun! Nobody pays to see a Die Hard movie to watch John McClane follow the rules. We pay to watch cars being flown into helicopters and 18-wheelers dodging fighter planes.
Some pros: Justin Long is not only funny, but played very realistically (we all know that there may not be a John McClane in the world, but there are tonnes of Matt Farrells); a hottie bad-guy, and to the movie franchise’s good credit, it again chooses a home-grown, white-bread bad guy, instead of picking someone from whichever country is currently on America’s black list (well, technically, the baddies in 1 and 3 were German brothers, not exactly home-grown but you know what I mean); there is an explosion every five minutes or so; it is interesting and frightening to wonder if the technological theories in the movie could be real (I’m not a techie so didn’t understand much of the hacker-talk); there was no shortage of one-liners.
Some cons: it’s completely far-fetched. And the couple next to me felt it necessary to engage in unedited conversation and hysterics, as if they were watching a movie in the comfort of their own home. Oh wait…that has nothing to do with the movie.
I imagine if you have half a brain and still want to go see this flick, then you already know what to expect and you’ll enjoy it. On the other hand, if you have half a brain and are filled with a sense of doom, then you already know what to expect so just walk away.
