Action in the North Atlantic
Service in the Merchant Marine means saying goodbye, keep the home fires burning. It is loose lips sink ships, a convoy tiptoeing through a dead-thick fog. It is the ear-splitting clatter of ack-acks and cries of aircraft sighted, all hands. It is fear, bravery and just doing a job. It is the lifeblood of democracy's arsenal.
This World War II salute to Allied forces that supply the war effort sweeps you into the action-filled voyage of a besieged freighter. Humphrey Bogart, a World War I seaman and an avid recreational sailer, stars as First Officer Joe Rossi who, along with his captain (Raymond Massey), matches tactics with U-boats and the Luftwaffe. The tactics are on target - so much so that this became a Merchant Marine training film.

On va pas trop rien dire parce qu'il y a Bogart, mais il y a quand même eu nettement mieux.
On peut s'abstenir. Le seul intérêt est le contexte culturel et politique dans lequel a été tourné ce film: la mobilisation de l'opinion américaine pour soutenir l'Union soviétique. Comme le discours a rapidement changé, çà vaut le coup d'oeil.great action - paddyboy
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Despite the obvious anti-Nazi propaganda, it was very entertaining. But this was wartime, and the movie had a particular purpose. The comic relief was well placed. Humphrey Bogart's performance was good, but not great ( I am thinking 'Casablanca' here). The scenes of the ship's steam engines in action was interesting (I can never get enough of the military technology; I recently watched " A Glimpse of Hell"). It was also notable to see (or not see) the lack of subtitles during the German conversations. Was this lack of technology at the time, or part of the propaganda to make the Germans seem inhuman? Most likely the latter. All things being considered, I would recommend this show to any member.
