Radiant City
Sprawl is eating the planet. Politicians call it growth. Developers call it business. The Moss family call it home. Gary Burns - master of dystopian comedy - hooks up with Journalist Jim Brown to tell a startling family chronicle of the Late Suburban Age. Welcome to Radiant City.

Radiant City is a good mocumentary with some interesting views on living in the suburbs. There is no real wrap up or final message to the film though and this leaves the audience hanging and feeling unclear of the final message that the film makers wanted to pass on. A strange ending. It's ok - Barb1
The makers of this film are trying to make the point: Urban spawl, bad. I don't disagree with them - quite the opposite - but they chose a convoluted and confused way to make the point. The child actors are great, a few moments are funny. The bit with the gun at the end was just confusing and the fake out that resulted just felt cheap. I would have liked better exploration of alternatives as well as a litany of all the reasons those monster "welcome to my garage" neighborhoods don't work well. But having said that, a few excellent points were made and I did learn some things.Fascinating - rnhaas
This is apparently a normal documentary. And then things start to unfold differently and you wonder "but how could they have known that was coming?" Then we are told what the movie really is, which might be best described as pseudo-documentary. I'm not sure how effective these tactics are to the message, as I totally agree with the message and so I'm biased. The approach was different, which made it more interesting; but I definitely favour the arguments of the planners and architects.
