Getting Out
Based on the play by Pulitzer Prize Winner Marsha Norman

Rebecca De Mornay stars as a young Georgia parolee who, upon "Getting Out" of prison after serving time on theft and murder convictions, defies both her mother (Ellen Burstyn) and the child welfare system in a desperate attempt to gain custody of the son she bore while in jail.

In the film, based on a play by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman (Night Mother, The Secret Garden), Arlene Holsclaw (De Mornay), has been rehabilitated and released from prison after serving an eight-year sentence. Arlene has one burning desire: to be reunited with her son, Joey, whom her mother (Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn in a special appearance) placed with foster parents immediately after he was born.

But locating Joey is no easy task. Nor is maintaining her newfound serenity. For not only must Arlene deal with roadblocks thrown up by the parole and child welfare systems, but she also finds herself locked in battle with her mother, her manipulative ex-con boyfriend (Robert Knepper) and her past demons, all of which threaten to overwhelm her once again.
