I guess my disappointment with this movie is partly my fault for not reading the description more closely. I wanted to see an historically accurate telling of the Colditz story, not some half-arsed, second-rate soap opera claptrap.
Yes, the description was about a soldier, but I envisioned something Band of Brothers-ish - storytelling, but REAL.
I gave up on this around the time that Damien Lewis's character becomes a Lieutenant and orders an assistant to find his buddy's girl.
A review I read on IMDb sums it up: "This movie is much like what Pearl Harbour did to Tora, Tora, Tora". I loved T3; Pearl Harbour (the Ben Affleck one), not so much. Not what you'd expect from the title - wcinet
I was very disappointed with this offering from British TV which I normally enjoy. Poor character development, disjointed writing and direction. Damian Lewis was totally miscast as a loutish Scot who gets his commission by being the first to escape from Germany, The Germans were portrayed for the most part as being incredibly dumb and of course they can't aim a rifle. The events as portrayed could never have happened, even the scenes of the London blitz were "hammy". The rest of the talented cast were wasted in their roles as was my time. I note that this is not reviewed in any of the movie sites and I can understand why, it was probably never submitted to them!
