Four tales of the supernatural from Amicus - Coconut_Willy
The Amicus production house made quite a few of these short story movies in the '70s and although they are not always very good, the formula is sure to entertain. By nature, there are never really any slow developing parts in these films but you may enjoy some stories more than others. In the case of this specific assembly, I really enjoyed 3 out of the 4 sketches. These are linked together through the presence of Peter Cushing and his antiques shop, a formula which might not be very original but always effective. As usual, the cast here is fabulous with numerous famed actors from the '60s and the '70s doing a very good acting job with a very well written dialogue. The sets and locations are well adapted to the different stories, the soundtrack is practically non-existent and the camera work is overall good enough. The only sketch I did not like was the one that was supposed to be funny; it sometimes work but this time, it didn't do it for me. If you like this style, you will certainly be entertained.
