Troy (Director's Cut)
This edition has the movie spanning two discs, but will be shipped together and treated as only one title on your ZipList.
This new cut of the movie includes 30 minutes of previously unseen footage.
Brad Pitt picks up a sword and brings a muscular, brooding presence to the role of Greek warrior Achilles in this spectacular retelling of The Iliad. Orlando Bloom and Diane Kruger play the legendary lovers who plunge the world into war, Eric Bana portrays the prince who dares to confront Achilles, and Peter O'Toole rules Troy as King Priam. Director Wolfgang Petersen recreates a long-ago world of bireme warships, clashing armies, the massive fortress city and the towering Trojan Horse.

Stunning, crystal clear, worth the rental. The epic tale of the Iliad charting the rise and fall of the ultimate Greek hero, Achilles, explodes onto the screen in this adaptation. The section concerned, follows Paris's betrayal of the king of Sparta, Menelaus, which results in the almighty siege of Troy. The characteristic moment was the sending of the Trojan Horse, to trick the enemy into allowing warriors into the city.

Although Wolfgang Peterson’s “Troy” does deviate supstantially from Homer’s classic Greek poem “The Iliad” (the film also incorporates parts of “The Odyssey” and Virgil’s “The Aeneid”), this is still a great romp. With over 30 minutes of addition footage, the characters feel more fleshed out here. The love affair between Paris and Helen is advanced (with added nudity), as is Ajax, who is virtually indistinguishable in the original film. The attack on Troy that ends the film is now several minutes longer. An interesting scene in which Odysseus is introduced is included, as is a completely new opening, where a dog walks across an abandoned battlefield.
This is a superior version of the film, which is generally the case with these director’s cuts. It follows along the lines of other popular historical films extended in recent years—“Gladiator” and “Kingdom of Heaven” among them. One for the DVD library - Isis59
A great mix of history and entertainment. Eric Bana & Brad Pitt are dynamic together. The weaving of all the complex relationships in Greece at the time are told so well. A powerhouse of characters; Peter O'Toole, as the father/king of Troy; Orlando Bloom as the young prince. Can't say enough good things...just get it.
