This Filthy World
Dubbed "The Pope of Trash" and branded "O for Offensive" by the Catholic church, filmmaker John Waters made his reputation by turning bad taste into high art.
In This Filthy World, the writer-director of such cult classics as Multiple Maniacs, Pink Flamingos, Polyester and Hairspray address a live theater audience in a hilarious and completely uncensored one-man show.
Part confession, part Vaudeville act, This Filthy World takes on such taboo topics as Catholicism, gay marriage and drug use while Waters waxes rhapsodic on the joys of saying inappropriate things to children.
Dokument Films presents This Filthy World, directed by Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), complete and uncut and coupled with sensational bonus materials including a no-hold barred Q & A session between John Waters and the audience, and an exclusive featurette in which John Waters candidly discusses his life and career.

John is Hilariously Filthy - Saywotnow
John Waters is my hero. He's made some of my favourite movies of all time: Female Trouble is his effigy IMO but Polyester, A Dirty Shame, Pecker, Hairspray, Serial Mom and Pink Flamingos are all very special films. To hear him talk about his movies as he does in this live appearance, is a not only dream come true to a fan like me but you reallize, this is your producer's producer. Most of my other favourite producers are obviously influenced by this genious strange little man from Baltimore who was a punk visionary before it even happened and has insisted on creating his addictive brand of strangeness ever since. It just goes to show you, that no matter how much of an outsider you are, if you stick to it and be true to your art and yourself and in his case, even your town, people will eventually catch on. What amazes me about John Waters is that as deranged and twisted, even perverted, his sense of humour and his movies are, there is paradoxically, something so innocent and pure about his love for doing it. His cast of Dreamlanders is legendary and it's just too cool to hear him reminisce about all of the "mini-crimes" they comitted on film. It's hilarious to hear him talk about going to parties and meetings in LA to get funding from people he doesn't otherwise have much interest in so that he can go home to Baltimore to do what he loves. He's an anti-hollywood movie producer who made it big time and, albeit subliminal at times, he has been a huge influence on American films & culture (much to the chegrin of the censors and right wingers whove tried to bring him down over the years). "Divine Trash" is also another great behind the scenes look at John's work.Part stand up, part autobiography - rnhaas
This is an entertaining performance. Waters is funny and sometimes very right about the film industry. I can't say that I'm the biggest fan of his movies but this makes me want to actually see him in person doing something like this. As a film it's nothing spectacular, as it literally is just a film of his performance. Worth watching though.great one man show-totally entertaining! - chrissieb
This is a film of one stop on Waters' tour of his one man show. it is simple and straight forward, just Waters telling his roundabout life/career story, his influences, inspirations, favorite people and places. I am no expert on Waters and his films, but regardless of my ignorance of most of his cult films, i found this film to be throughly hilarious and intriguing. he could have easily been an stand up instead of filmmaker because he is so suited to this audience interactive, story telling format. it is witty, clever, lewd, crude, subversive, ironic and completely enjoyable. i loved it!
