Definitely not the top of my list, but I found this movie to be watchable if a little confusing.
The story seems to lack a beginning or an end, or an element to wrap everything all up nicely. I have not seen Night Watch, but have read the Day Watch book. Still, I got a little confused and felt like the end was inconclusive; otherwise visually interesting, and just overall alright.Difficult to follow but certainly entertaining - Coconut_Willy
Where Night Watch was quite refreshing with its relentless intensity and its somewhat original take on the battle between good and evil, Day Watch is, in my opinion, a bit too long and hard to understand. The storyline is often interrupted in its development to present action scenes and special effects that are quite spectacular but sometimes irrelevant. Not speaking Russian, I watched the English version and the dubbing makes it even less accessible. It is still quite enjoyable with an interesting cast doing an appropriate acting job with an often odd dialogue (at least in English). The sets and locations are very interesting, the soundtrack is a nice mixture of modern and orchestrated music and the camera work is good although a bit too nervous for my taste. The special effects are as good as it gets with numerous spectacular scenes. It is still quite different from the mainstream action films that we are used to see but it does lose a bit of its novelty compared to the first installment. If the action film genre is your bag, you might enjoy this one but I still prefer Night Watch.woah - agent_aardvark
What can you expect??? - folks riding horses through castle walls, animals which turn into people, vampires, evil children and a woman with a hairdo that forms devil horns. Thats just the beginning... Theres more, way more...
All this presented stylishly, telling a tale of Russian folklore about good, evil and the end of the world. You can tell they spent a lot of money making this movie, and the final product is worth it.
Some will find the movie too long to watch in one shot... you might want to watch it over two nights.
