Amusing and Honest - Doom

The thing that seperates this film from such exercises in "nerd blackface" as The Big Bang Theory is that it feels emotionally honest and relevant.

Yes, there are the requisite number of celebrity cameos and fan-trivia to prove the film-makers are the real deal. But more than that, the four principal characters ring true as people that I (as a life-long nerd) have spent a lot of time with.

The whole film, despite not always being as funny as it thinks it is, is emotionally honest and sometimes charming.

Road Trip meets Star Wars - Paulywood

Not so long ago, in a Carriage House with four friends, A movie was on the brink of being released. That movie, Star Wars The Phantom Menace. Great movie about friendship, and forgiveness. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, Fanboys will make you laugh until it hurts. Has a Road trip meets Star Wars feel it. A Great watch if you like silly comedy.

How to be a Fan(boy) - daveandginny

Ok, time for a confession: I'm a nerd. This movie was essentially made for me, and I enjoyed it guilt-free.

You can't really grasp the essence of fanboy-ism until you see it firsthand, and this movie addresses that issue firsthand in the first few minutes of the movie. Darth Vader walks into a Hallowe'en party flanked by a pair of stormtroopers, grabs a beer, then sits down to open his laptop for an online date. THAT is the essence of the fanboy who doesn't care what people think, and unerringly follows his obsession.

While I was biased in favor this film and caught a lot of the nuances that would go over some people's heads, Ginny also enjoyed this movie -- although I think some of her laughter was at my reactions when I kept falling off the couch.

This movie is light-hearted, means well, and underlines some important points, whether you're a Star Wars fan, Star Trek fan, or not a fan of the Stars at all: follow your dreams, find your Death Star, and never give up on a friend.

Definitely a must-see.
