You name it, we shoot it.
A man (Jack Black) whose brain becomes magnetized accidentally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal customer, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake every movie that she decides to rent, including Back to the Future, The Lion King, Rush Hour and Robocop.

I really wanted to like this film. Not only does it satirize America’s “Blockbuster” mentality but it also throws a few well placed jabs at corporate Hollywood in the process. Unfortunately it is just not that good. Gondry often sacrifices logic for a silly gag or mawkish sentimentality and Jack Black joins Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey on my list of extremely annoying character actors. In it’s own strange way though it is a love letter of sorts to the magic of cinema......a poorly worded letter with lots of spelling errors and written in crayon.......but sincere nonetheless.Dissapointment - Sweetdays
When I fist saw the previews for this movie I was excited in a way Jack Black has never before excited me. However, after watching the entire film...and boy did it FEEL like forever... I found that the previews belied the point of the movie, and that the plot was a dissapointment compared to the commercials. Take it from me- if you've seen the trailer, you've seen the best this film has to offer.Forget CG - Swede it - AnnaK
The preview got me so excited, and I loved the scenese where they made the movies. But the touching "Save our quaint store" plot versus slapstick comedy seemed to belong to two different movies. The storyline was a lot like watching Jack Black and Mos Def - two very different things going on that are great on their own, but somehow just don't work together.
I think the message of the movie was about reconnecting the audience with film in a personal way. Love a movie for it's idiosyncratic and never mind that it's not in mind blowing CG.
