You gotta go into those movies with a grain a salt ... like VERY coarse salt ! ... This is just pure outrageous fun to be had with over the top stories. In this case at least we get to like some of the mane characters and there is a little bit of goofiness, which is really good in this case. The Goofiest Movie I've Ever Seen... - Jirataur
...and I've seen some really goofy movies. When I first saw the cover art and plot summary for this movie, I stared blankly at my computer screen for a few minutes. Then I Zip'd it. I had to see this for myself.
This flick is a mixed bag: it rarely takes itself seriously, which is good because no one in the audience will be able to sit through this with a straight face. It is, for the most part, silly and comical, although there are times when it tries to be serious, and that's when it really starts stinking up the screen. However, when it's just being an intentional campy monster movie it's actually rather entertaining.
The script and acting aren't as terrible as you'd expect, although that's not to say they're particularly good. The effects are inconsistent: in the effects-heavy opening credits sequence (which is awesome), the CGI is almost theatrical quality. For the crawling zombie hand that comes out of nowhere about halfway through, the CGI is pretty decent. But the giant zombie mammoth itself looks like something out of an Xbox game.
MAMMOTH is a fairly entertaining and competently-made monster flick, although it has its fair share of flaws. For instance, there's a giant zombified mammoth stomping around sucking people's guts out through their noses. How does no one notice this? You'd think they'd at least smell the thing, if not hear it.
