Fool's Gold
True Love Takes a Dive
Ben Finn Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) is a good-natured, surf bum-turned-treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen's Dowry - 40 chests of exotic treasure that were lost at sea in 1715. In his quest, Finn has sunk everything he has, including his marriage to Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson) and his more-rusty-than-trusty salvage boat, "Booty Calls."
Just as Tess has begun to rebuild her life, working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland), Finn discovers a vital clue to the treasure's whereabouts. Certain that his luck will change with the newfound information, Finn maneuvers himself aboard Nigel's yacht and, using his good-natured charm, convinces the tycoon and his Blackberry-wielding, celebutante daughter, Gemma (Alexis Dziena), to join him in the pursuit of the Spanish treasure.
Against Tess' better judgement, the search rekindles her love of...discovery. But they are not the only ones after the treasure. Finn's mentor-turned-nemesis Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone) has also set out to claim the prize. Let the treasure hunt begin...

Kate and Matthew, Round 2 - 0930tracey
I loved these 2 in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (a superior film) and liked them again in this movie. A quirky script with fantastic supporting characters. I definately get the feeling that they genuinely like each other, which makes for great chemistry on screen. Worth a watch, for sure.Fool's Gold - AppsScraps
Surprisingly, I preferred this silly film to Matthew McConaughey's previous film of the same genre, Sahara. Interestingly, it suffers from the same problem inherent in that film too - a frustrating lack of identity, a film unsure of what it's trying to be: comedy, adventure, historical thriller, romance. McConaughey stars as Benjamin Finnegan (Finn), a dumbass treasure seeker in hawk to a corrupt Caribbean rapper, Bigg Bunny (Kevin Hart) on the hunt for the secret treasure known as the Queen's Dowry with his very smart ex-wife Tess (the always good Kate Hudson). Toss in Canada's own Donald Sutherland as a rich publisher, Nigel Honeycutt, trying to bemuse his Valley-girl-esque daughter Gemma (Alexis Dziena) and you've quite a mess of a story. Director Andy Tennant manages to keep the pace going despite the silly script mind you. While the personae McConaughery has adopted of late is thoroughly aggravating, there's enough lighthearted dumbness here to warrant a view on a cold winter's night.
My rating 5 out of 10.Hidden Gem - kav2001c
Definately a hidden gem (named subconsiously after his daughter!) this film was critically trashed and quickly ended up in the bargain bins at the store. I dont understand why. The plot is silly, but the movie is fun, keeps pace up, has elements of comedy, intrigue, emotion, and is well done by pretty much everyone involved who all play thier cartoon caricatures to a tee.
A young couple gets divorced after the husband cant keep a job and ends up in serious debt. His soon to be ex-wife is bored intellectually and doesnt like living day by day. They both meet an eccentric millionaire (and his hilarious debutante daughter) and convince him to finance thier little treasure hunt. The villains are played by a group of local thugs, rival treasure hunters, and a rapper who is larger than life as Bugs would say.
Dont beleive the publicity, give this movie a spin (especially if you enjoyed similar films from the 80s)
