This is an interesting film and beautiful to look at. My biggest issue is that it never fully probes the "why." We get personal reasons and these are often phrased in some vague mysticism. There is no attempt at explaining the phenomenon of extreme skiing (and extreme sports) as a whole. I think that would have made this film better. As a brief overview of its history and major figures though, it's not bad.Granted there are some cool shots... - Impatient
First I will say this: I am not a skier. I zipped this for my husband who is a skier.
If you are looking for the exciting, fast paced, rocket down the slope ski movie, this is not it. If you're looking to see some of the...well, steepest skiing, this would be your movie. It is a doc, so it has a lot of interviews, some old footage and live shots. The cinematography is amazing. Seeing a cross-slope shot of a guy going down a mountain face that is near vertical is amazing. The people that made this movie love skiing and it shows.
Did I like it? Yeah, it was okay. A little dry, but interesting. Hubby loved it. He must have watched it at least 3 times and loaned it to his friend's kids to watch. (They thought it was boring.) I would have given it only 2 stars if Hubby didn't like it so much. He would have given it 4 so I split the difference and 3 it is.
But remember: I am not a skier - Hubby is.
