Predator (Blu-ray)
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in this action-packed adventure story of fighting men pitted against an unseen enemy, a force more powerful than their fiercest weapons. Recruited by the CIA to rescue hostages held by guerrilla fighters in a Central American country, Schwarzenegger and his men encounter an enemy unimaginably more deadly than any on Earth--because the Predator is not of this Earth. Packed with spectacular special effects and combat scenes of gut-wrenching power, Predator is the most terrifying Schwarzenegger movie yet.

A classic guys movie night main event ! - flash2000
This flick oozes testosterone ! One of the best sci-fi action movies of all time, in my opinion. It's filled of classic one-liners that will make friends smile for days.
For those who never saw it, it delivers pretty good suspense once you begin to realise what kind of enemy Arnie's up against. For everyone else, you just want to watch the brutal deathmatch till the end.Two movies in one! - McMoovieguy
I hadn't seen this since it's release in 1987. I think I enjoyed it more this time. My original disappointment 20 odd years ago was that the first half is essentially a typical 1980s B-movie actioner with bad acting, bad one-liners and not even a glimpse of the Predator.
But second time around it holds up just fine. The action works and you sense the shift from war movie to sci-fi man vs. alien. The special effects for the creature's vision are creaky by today's standards but the invisibility cloak still looks cool. And the Predator itself is still a great look.
The real meat is the last half hour where it's Arnie vs. the Predator. The action is inventive and director John McTiernan actually builds some tension that he was unable to do in the first half of the movie.
I do agree with some other comments here, however, that the digital transfer to High Definition is disappointing. The Blu Ray version to me seemed no different than playing a regular DVD and the player upconverting it. Lots of grainy close up shots.
Still, this is worth a revisit if you haven't seen it in a while and definitely worth getting if you're a first timer. The movie may not be great but the creature itself is one of the movie's great sci-fi inventions.Class act - basilbenz
McTiernan's Predator released in 1987 and has stood the test of time as a Sci-Fi classic. A fitting and elaborate cast (Arnold, Carl Weathers, etc.) help viewers come to grips with the environment of the movie. Silvestri's soundtrack kicks in with excellent timing as do the sound effects which remain crisp and heart-stopping. The cinematography is good and the action scenes are smooth, realistic and fun to watch.
The characters are commandos targeting renegade forces in Central America to rescue a diplomatic hostage. Watching them transcend from macho-man confidence to panicky prey-like paranoia creates a perfect atmosphere for the film, which plays off your imagination until the climax where Dutch, played by Arnold, relies on wit and instinctual strengths to combat the terror at any cost. The effects are impressive and are excitingly original, especially with the creation of such a sophisticated beast as the Predator.
Perhaps what makes the film have a such a raw, earthly quality is its relation to settings of man vs. nature in the modern world. Facing something infinitely more powerful than man is what the story comes down to; perhaps even man can conquer the unknown if he remains true to his natural powers than his ammunition.
Survival suspense of the purest kind. Predator deserves higher ratings.
