Drillbit Taylor
You get what you play for.
Ryan (Troy Gentile), Wade (Nate Hartley) and Emmit (David Dorfman) attend their first day at high school and they're pumped... until they meet up with Filkins (Alex Frost), a school bully who comes off like a little Hannibal Lecter.
Before they become completely engulfed in Filkins' reign of terror, they seek out some protection by placing an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine. Their best response -- and the cheapest - comes from Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), a down-on-his luck soldier of fortune who lives a homeless - he likes to say "home-free" - existence on the beach. He enrolls them in some physical and mental training.

There's no confusion as to why this movie was a box-office bomb. It's a limp comedy that doesn't take advantage of Owen Wilson, and has a cast of young actors that don't really click. Combine that with mostly unfunny jokes and you have an otherwise forgettable film and one of the lower level movies that has Judd Apatow's name attached to it.Not sure why I was laughing. - KeithTalent
I probably laughed at this more than I should have. Very cliche and dumb, but I've liked Owen Wilson ever since I first saw him in Bottle Rocket and I always have a soft spot for him, just something likeable about the guy. I also find Leslie Mann pretty damn hot, so this movie has that going for it. Not much else to say, but if you like typical, dumb fish out of water comedies, this is for you.mixed feelings - dural78
I can't quite make up my mind on this one. On one hand, there are some really funny parts. The kids getting bullied nail there rolls, and the dialog and banter between them and Owen Wilson is well done.
What makes me feel uneasy is the revenge element of the film. It's a sensitive topic with all of the recent school shootings. Bullying is a very real problem in schools, but the response of the principal and other school authorities is disturbing. This response is one of the very reasons why kids bring guns to school.
So while there are funny parts, they are counter balanced by issues that aren't so funny.
