The Architect
Anthony LaPaglia stars with Viola Davis and Isabella Rossellini in a harrowing and ultimately human story of two very different families. Leo Waters (LaPaglia) is an idealistic architect and patriarch of an affluent, suburban Chicago family living with his troubled wife, Julia (Isabella Rossellini), blossoming daughter, Christina (Hayden Panettiere) and conflicted son, Martin (Sebastian Stan). Tonya Neely (Viola Davis) is an activist trying to keep her family safe while living in one of the city's most drug and crime-infested housing projects. As part of her ongoing campaign to have the projects torn down and decent housing built in its place, Tonya decides that the one signature she needs more than any other on her petition is that of the projects' original architect, Leo Waters.

At first glance it seemes like an MTV made for TV movie, which I'm not entirely sure it isn't. While there was serious issues at hand in this film I just felt that not everythign was pulled together. Different characters had different experiences but at the end of the day you didn't feel as if a whole lot was accomplished. (Trying not to give spoilers) It just felt like this movie should have been pulled tighter together by all the thigns happening to the characters. Could have been much more epic but in a normal every day life kind of scenario.Real, Painful, But... - AJay
Without spoiling the film there was something very real and disturbing about the way this story is told...a social commentary that is painful.
This is one of those unusual films where the casting, dialogue, story line, and editing all hang together but the photography and/or direction just doesn't do the movie justice. It has the feel of an 'after school special' from my youth or a director's first entry at a film festival.
Still, this is a film with something to say.
