After Dark Horrorfest: Borderland
Unrated Director's Cut
Films to Die For
When three Texas University students travel to a Mexican border town on the eve of their graduation, the last thing they expect is to face their own deaths. Without warning, they fall prey to an ancient blood cult hellbent on finding candidates for human sacrifice. Based on true events, Borderland tells a story which blends the raw fear of Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the stark reality of In Cold Blood, evoking a world soaked in paranoia, fear and dread.

Excellent Movie! - Jeefster
This one isn't really a supernatural type like the normal horrors, rather it is very realistic, which makes it far more terrifying than fictitious films.
Based on a true story, rather very loosely. If you watch the extras you'll see that the original idea is based on what happened many years ago, but to make it more enjoyable (and profitable) there were vast liberties taken with the plot, like there weren't any teenagers running around trying to save their buddies in real life. So... rather than make this a crime drama, they made it an on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller that uses true-to-life action gore scenes to curdle your skin.
The acting was believable, the plot was realistic, and the gritty locations were well chosen grubby/shabby paces just like real small towns and farms in Mexico.
The story revolves around the drug lord who thinks that human sacrifices will make the "Gods" happy and thereby grant him some sort of superhuman powers of immunity against ill fortune, and untouchable by the cops and their bullets. The extras delve into this fact quite well, but if you were watching the movie a little closer than some of the above critics then you would have picked up on the reasoning behind Mr. Baddie's behaviour.
Really quite an enjoyable little film, made better by the documentary type extra piece with the cop who helped put a stop to this sicko, you can't go wrong renting this classy little gem.
Enjoy!two thumbs up! - cougargirl
I like these types of movies, not so mainstream. Was definitely scary, lots of gore, and what makes it worse is the fact that it's based on true events! I've seen other movies from some of the 'after dark horrorfest' series and this is by far one of the best ones out there. Definitely makes you think twice about travelling to some parts of the world, that's for sure!borderland - karenbergeron
