This movie is so cute. It is awesome. Abigail Breslin is such a sweetie pie and does such a great job in this film. Gerald Butler is great as usual, and so hot! I loved his role with the two seperate characters that eventually melded into one. Jody Foster's role was quite entertaining as well. Her character was a lot of fun and watching the transformation of her character to grow and care for a little girl, while overcoming her fears is a nice heart whelming story.Nim's Island lots of Fun! - Buffy
It took us 20 minutes to really get into the movie. At first glance we thought we made a mistake renting a movie that was just for kids but let me tell you the story drew us in as the magical island of Nim does in this story. Jodi Foster is great as "Alex Rover" and Nim portrayed by Abigal makes it worth watching. It is a story about a little girl and her father who live in an undiscovered island near a volcano. One day when the dad goes on a 2 day scientific trip he leaves Nim alone not knowing that a storm was brewing. The storm destroys the dad's boat and Nim is left alone seeking the help of Alex Rover...A Decent Family Film - Filmgal
An adventure tale that's designed for both kids and adults to enjoy, Nim's Island manages to entertain without resorting to dumbed-down storylines or juvenile humour and proves to be a film that's great for the whole family.
Nim (Breslin) is a kind of beach-jungle girl whose best friends are animals as she lives a tranquil life on a far off island with her father (Butler). Her hero is literary adventurer Alex Rover...who unfortunately exists only in the mind of the timid and fearful writer Alexandra (Foster). Through the wonders of technology, Nim and Alexandra are brought together to help save Nim's father from an accident at sea- and of course, each learns something important about themselves along the way.
Without and hokey gimmicks or pop culture references, Nim's Island has a timeless quality that an adventure film in the style of Indiana Jones needs to stay fresh.
Jodie Foster acts out of character in her first film in her adult career geared towards children. She's a bit neurotic and it may not be the classic Foster that you'll find in Silence of the Lambs, but for the film and audience it works. Breslin manages to hold her own as she spends the majority of time on screen on her own, acting opposite her island animal friends. Butler is scarcely seen as the father as he too is isolated at sea after a storm, but he pops up as the adventurer of Rover's novels, encouraging Alexandra to act more like her imaginative characters.
There's some humour, and some mild nail biting moments. All and all a good one to bring home and watch with the entire family.
