Deception
"An edge-of-your-seat sexual thriller..." - Pete Hammond, Hollywood.com
Leave your inhibitions at the door as Hugh Jackman (X-Men Trilogy) and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) lure Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge) into a tangled web of lust and lies in this scorching erotic thriller. Lonely, timid accountant Jonathan McQuarry (McGregor) lives only for his work – until a chance meeting with suave, charismatic corporate lawyer Wyatt Bose (Jackman) introduces him to "The List." Suddenly, the right cell-phone number and the words, "Are You Free Tonight," launch Jonathan on a decadent journey of sexual conquests and self-discovery amidst New York’s power elite. But an affair with a ravishing and mysterious stranger (Williams) will expose him to another world he never imagined: one of betrayal, treachery and murder!

You can tell from the very first moments of the film that accountant Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan MacGregor) is going to be had by lawyer Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman). This is both unfortunate; and not. Director Marcel Langenegger is not subtle so we see it all coming; ditto when our femme fatale S (Michelle Williams) arrives on scene. We know she's not quite what she seems. So sure the story is full of holes but thankfully the acting of this trio staves off complete ruin. The film's premise is, well, just silly and the segway into the sexual escapades of the rich and idle via a swingers club - "Are you free tonight?" - doesn't help. The wee twist at the end makes the going somewhat worth the journey ... but barely. My rating 5 out of 10.Phone Sex Laugher - kav2001c
Not really quite sure how to rate this particular movie. It is very predictable plot wise (there really isnt a single moment of clarity in the entire film) and it really borders on being cheesy. Yet the actors do a good job at keeping my interest in what would normally be a cheap straight to vhs laugher.
An accountant with no life meets a successful exec who seems to have a way with the ladies. By accident he ends up with his friends cell phone, and discovers his friend is involved in a sex ring. He of course makes a few calls, meets a few women, and soon finds himself involved in a huge conspiracy. Not nearly as bad as some would have you believe - purvis1359
"Deception", a film by director Marcel Langenegger, was, at least in my opinion, not nearly as bad as some reviews would have you believe. While nothing to write home about, "Deception" contains just enough twists and turns to hold your attention throughout the course of the almost two-hour movie.
The film follows accountant Jonathan McQuarry (played by Ewan McGregor) as he in introducted to "The List", a secret anonymous sex group, by lawyer Wyatt Bose (played by Hugh Jackman). McQuarry soon realizes, however, that Bose is not who he says he is, and is thrust into a plot of extortion and betrayal.
The soundtrack to "Deception" is quite well done; the cinematography is decent. While the film is sexually-charged, I would not go as far as to say it is a "scorching erotic thriller" as described in the official synopsis.
As far as being a sucessful thriller, I would say that "Deception" is spot-on; nothing spectacular but certainly interesting, entertaining, and full of just enough surprises.
