Speed Racer
From the Creators of "The Matrix" Trilogy Comes a World Built for Speed.
Born to race cars, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized - the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5.
When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret - some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won't drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line.
The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival - the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox) - to win the race that had taken his brother's life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Young boy movie - cloicker
I really enjoyed watching this movie with my 10 year old son. It's hard to find movies for that age group when it comes to boys and this one was fantastic!! It took a little bit at the beginning to get used to the weird animation...some of it seemed like an animated flick while other shots were shot in real time. Neat concept and neat to watch!Great Over the Top Racing - moviedoug
This movie delivers exactly what it should. It has very stylish racing that is completely unrealistic in a good way. Speed Racer is based on an anime series and thus feels like a live action animated movie. The acting is superb especially by John Goodman as Pops. The story is rather simple, a large corrupt industry tries to recruit Speed and when he refuses they will stop at nothing to ruin his racing career and the company that his father founded.
If you like over the top car racing with high stakes, a villain to hate and a good guy to root for watch this movie.
If you don't like anime, cars or underdog stories than stay away from this film, it wasn't meant for you.Certainly not my type of movie - Coconut_Willy
This is an excellent example of a film that you either love or hate. Although I would not go as far as saying that I hated it, overall I did not like it. I must admit that John Goodman made me laugh on occasions but that pretty much sums it up. It does deliver what it advertised though which is a 2 hours plus very cartoonish CGI fest so if that's your style, you won't be disappointed. The storyline is very much in the vein of the original series; superficial and childish. That might have worked for a 30 minutes animated series episode but does not cut it for a full-length feature like this. Too bad because the cast is pretty good with some well known faces doing the best acting job possible under the circumstances. The sets and locations are interesting, the soundtrack is pleasant and the camera work is appropriate. The special effects are obviously well done as this is the centerpiece of the movie but for me, technical achievements are not enough. I thought it looked more like a video game than a film. If that's your genre, go for it.
