Day of the Outlaw
Out of the blizzard came the most feared killers who over took over a town.
Robert Ryan "is topnotch" (Hollywood Citizen-News), starring alongside Burl Ives (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) and Tina Louise (The Hangmen) in this "bleak and wintry western" (Halliwell's Film Guide) from director André De Toth (Carson City). Tough-as-nails Blaise Starrett (Ryan) is about to face a showdown with a fellow rancher whose wife Starrett happens to be in love with. But this small-town conflict is nothing compared to what's on the horizon when outlaw Jack Bruhn (Ives) and his gang ride into town. On the lam after a brutal robbery, the outlaws terrorize the townspeople and hold them captive, even as Bruhn lies dying from a bullet wound to his chest. When Starrett eventually leads the homesteaders on a trail out of harm's way, the tension explodes to an unforgettable climax. Filled with action and suspence, this is one Day you'll never forget!

Day of the Outlaw - cinemascope
Certainly not a western to be cosidered a classic but should be watched by anyone who is a western fan. Burl Ives gives an O.K.job but not up to his standard in some of his other movies like The Big Country or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Tina Louise is so so.Cowboy Jeff Loved This Movie! - Cricketeer
I have to be honest - westerns are not my favourite genre. And while there are certainly some westerns I have enjoyed very much, I don't watch all the ones that come into our house; that's my husband's favourite thing to do: a beer, a bowl of peanuts, and a rock 'em, sock 'em western. I'm just grateful he doesn't get out the chaps...
Anyway, he came out of the TV room after seeing DAY OF THE OUTLAW and said "this is the best cowboy movie ever!" Not a man given to hyperbole, I asked him why he though so... and all he could get out was "Ryan was amazing. I really believed he WAS a cowboy. I believed everything he did and said."
This from a man who spent his 6th year sleeping in a pair of pj's that horses and six shooters on them, with a 'kerchief round his neck.
So if you too want to channel your inner Tom Mix, get this movie. And a beer & bowl of peanuts :-)WIth complexity - TaBobo
This is one fun western. So much conflict, so much subtle complexity to the characters. We have layers here that are so much fun.
Certainly a smaller role for Ryan and Yves as all things considered, but they do a lot with what they have.
I'll avoid the spoiler comment I have, but I'd like to see where they'd go with it if they made in now.
Enjoy.
