Hancock
Unrated
Academy Award nominee Will Smith (Best Actor, The Pursuit of Happyness, 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public.
When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again - until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, Best Actress, Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.

I didn't know what to expect from this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a different take on the traditional superhero story and a probably more realistic version, if that's possible. I thought, however, that the movie was doing very well until the second half. It took a turn it did not need to take and which didn't add anything to the story. Had the movie stayed with the original story line, I think it would have rated higher.not your average super hero movie - timmer
This is an awesome movie. The first superhero movie where the effects of someone breaking the rules of nature have a real impact on the environment. Will Smith was a real person with super powers and an attitude to boot. Very funny and what i would expect from someone who can fly (dodging airplanes, birds etc). I never saw Superman do these things and Spiderman never narrowly missed an object when swinging through town. Another movie which is similar to this is My Super Ex-girlfriend.Good Job! - Face
Based on that early, overly sexual scene and the abundance of (mild?) swearing, I would definitely not consider this movie PG. However, the film has all the trimmings of a high-speed action flick, riddled with witty humor, and a perfect leave-the-place-smiling, feel-good ending.
Hancock (Will Smith) is the unlikely superhero, an alcoholic "asshole" (don't call him that!) who takes the meaning of being 'special' to a whole new level. Will Smith is an incredible actor as he fits his role perfectly and manages to take the awkward comic-book feeling right out of the picture. In his quest to be respected and loved by his city, Hancock must step up to the plate and shed his spiny armor of self-doubt in the face of all adversity.
This is a movie that will keep you laughing and hoping, just waiting for that spark of human acceptance that we're all searching for.
The only downside is when the movie goes a little over-the-top with the crazy super chick and the superhuman explanations (did someone say angels?), so beware of some awkward geek moments.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable movie, and a great start to breaking through the fantasy-reality divide with something meaningful.
