For those who've ever ordered Scholastics in School might have heard of Kit Kitteredge, if not an advid readier then perhaps a fan of HBO?
Sure HBO focuses on more risque programs, Kit is alot more safe and family friendly- the Made for Tv movie is heartwarming, entertaining and at times hilariously delicious. As a fan of Abigail since her debut in Little Miss Sunshine, it's fair to say she's come along, long way from cute and pudgy to a mature young lady. The show reminded me of a Nancy drew Mystery but during a different era (The depression). Honorable mention to Chris O'Donnell (The Father) and villianist Joan Cusack for lightening up a would be said seriously dampening storyline.A surprisingly charming movie - Calzephyr
I'm an adult and I ordered this movie just because I always liked the American Girls line of toys and it looked cute in the commercials. I also like antiques and was really impressed with the attention to detail.
The story about a Depression era girl whose comfortable life is changed seems an apt one in this day and age. If you like your heroines plucky and mysteries where kids save the day, this is the movie for you. The mystery part was actually well done! I also liked the movie's message of compassion for all people.
The ending was a little sappy, but didn't spoil too much of the movie. Definitely above average for family fare!Well-crafted film for girls. - TCMaddict
Our seven-year-old daughter loved this and our son actually made it all the way through it, too. It has the tone of a 1970's Disney family movie with resourceful kids, loads of one-dimensional adults, slapstick villains, and a sentimental heart. If you accidentally showed your kids Transformers, this is a good antidote.
