Day of the Dead
Faster, Stronger, Deadlier.
This Spring, the Dead Will Rise!
Nick Cannon, Mena Suvari, and Ving Rhames star in this horror film based on the George A. Romero classic zombie film. A mysterious virus has infected the small town of Leadville, Colorado and the military is brought in to enforce a quarantine and stop the spread of the disease. As people perish, survivors realize that the virus is creating the walking dead who crave human flesh. Only a small number of people are immune to the virus and those few survivors must battle to fend off the infected zombies while trying to make it out of town alive.

Not that good but I have a weakness for zombies. Don't know why, just do. Day of the dead is the kind of movie that the average movie viewer will hate but there might be a little something in it for the hardcore zombie fan. Compare it to Romero's original of said name and you'll whip it out the window but compared to other zombie flicks that have been heaped on us (Zombiez, flesh eater,etc..) it stands a little above.Mena Suvari looks pretty good in this as well. Another perk.
USELESS FACTS:
Despite the title most of the movie takes place at night.
Although the film's plot shares little with the original, many of the scenes and situations from the original are duplicated, such as debating on whether or not a fellow member should be killed even though there's a chance he won't become a zombie, a zombie firing a gun, and the heroes having to make their way through an abandoned missile silo.Couldn't Even Finish It - FreddyFerd
I. Love. Zombies. Period. But this movie was so bad that I shut it off after approximately 45 minutes to an hour- I just couldn't sit through it any longer. The 'turning' was stupid and sudden, the sped-up action for the zeds looked dumb, and I couldn't possibly care less about Mena Suvari's unarmed soldier character or "Bub" either. I thought this was supposed to be a remake of the Romero Day of the Dead- set in a military base with Bub as a semi-intelligent, barely-speaking zombie. Maybe it gets to the base eventually (and Bub is certainly semi-intelligent at best) but the first while of the movie was so poorly done that I couldn't even get to that part. Avoid this like "the plague". If you want to see a good zombie movie, watch anything with Romero at the helm, especially the original Dawn of the Dead. Fantastic flicks- sadly, very different from how this clunker turned out.Disappointing - Vee26
While watching this film, I found I was constantly uttering "What the ..?". I was as confused as this movie was in telling its story. The zeds had too many crazy abilities and characteristics. Every situation lacked sense.
The terror in a zombie film is that once we suspend belief and accept that the dead come back with a voracious urge to feed, we see how people (like us) react. But this story crammed in too many elements from a variety of good movies (all done better). Dialogue was poor and the talent of its actors were wasted.
On top of it all, it unsuccessfully paid homage to the original film. It never should have taken the name "Day of the Dead". It is not a remake. It is just terrible.
