Man on Wire
1974. 1350 feet up. The artistic crime of the century.
On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York's twin towers, then the world's tallest buildings. After nearly an hour dancing on the wire, he was arrested, taken for psychological evaluation, and brought to jail before he was finally released. James Marsh's documentary brings Petit's extraordinary adventure to life through the testimony of Philippe himself, and some of the co-conspirators who helped him create the unique and magnificent spectacle that became known as "the artistic crime of the century."

This was truly documentary making at its finest, it really takes you into the characters, the scenes and the emotions the people must have been going through. All highlighting a feat that would be impossible in todays fear filled world. I only deduct one star because despite trying, I could simply just not identify with the passion that drove the main characters drive to attempt the stunts he attempted.A Truley Great Film! - farquh
Can't say enough good about this film. For me, it was the best film of 2008.
About halfway through viewing it, you forget that you are watching a documentary as the story seems like a written narrative.
The main character is flawed, which is what makes him interesting. You find yourself cheering for him and hoping that he succeeds well beyond the point where his final flaws are revealed.
The testimony of the people who were there, witnessed it and helped, makes this film all the more fascinating.
THIS IS NOT TO BE MISSED!!Captivating - egyptnation
As I have said in many reviews of other documentary films on this site, one of the most important things in a doc is that the person being documented be interesting. I was quite skeptical before seeing this movie, but the way it is shot, as a heist flick, totally works. On top of that, Phillip Petit is such a great person to watch speak. He is so full of energy and life.
