Boy, do I love it when I stumble across horror movies that I have either entirely missed, forgotten about or was too busy on vacation (because there is a definite gap in time when I stopped seeing films, first-run in the theater). I saw "Mirrors 2"--which basically sucked. But there are a lot of good reasons to like "Mirrors"-- "Mirrors 1", you could say. One of my favorite reasons is the way the special effects were handled: I can't stand Saw-like jump cuts because they don't impress me or make me more tense or escalate my fear; they actually ruin the effect and snap me out of the movie; they've become the lazy-man's attempt at frightening the impatient MTV kids, who take in more information per second than every adult without a game system could possibly absorb over a lifetime. "Mirrors" firmly proved my point. Good scary movies don't require insane jump cutting. All they need is time and planning and an eye for what's truly unsettling: and, as in the case of this one, they are far more disturbing.Too Bad - naoj3873
This isn't terrible for an at home video. The story premise is very good, and the ending is neat. The film will be more interesting if you listen to the making of the film/director's commentary after. When I did this, then replayed some of the scenes..I had a better sense of the connections.
Kiefer has his "intense - 24" personna in this film.,..stays true to character. Would have liked to have seen some growth or change or building up of this charater in the film..would have made it more interesting or would have made me care what happens with him..Since this didn't happen, I found myself feeling sleepy and bored on my killer couch.
Again, light entertainment and wortha watch if nothing on TV! :)
