Felon
No rules. No hope. No way out.
Stephen Dorff (Black Water Transit, World Trade Center), Val Kilmer (Columbus Day, Conspiracy), Harold Perrineau, Jr. (The Matrix Revolutions, TV's Lost) and Sam Shepard (The Accidental Husband, Stealth) star in the high-action and edge-of-your-seat prison film, Felon, the story of a family man who is convicted of murder for killing an intruder who enters his home, threatening the lives of his wife and son. As he struggles to survive the violent penal system in a maximum-security state prison where a corrupt lieutenant tries to maintain power and order, even if it means crossing the line. Also starring Anne Archer (End Game, Man of the House), Gregg Serano (Conspiracy, TV's Wildfire), Nick Chinlund (Ball Don't Lie, Ultraviolet), Johnny Lewis (AVPR: Alien vs. Predator Requiem, TV's The O.C.), Marisol Nichols (Big Momma's House 2, TV's 24) and Nate Parker (The Great Debaters, Pride).

This one seemed almost like a made for TV deal
at first (except for all the blood of course) but I started to get more into it as it rolled along. Same with that bad prison guard guy. At first I thought he was a real wimp, but he started to get more convincing as it went. I thought Val Kilmer did a great job in this one, especially after watching his dud performance in Kiss,Kiss,Bang,Bang. It's a crime to not rent this - Arkanok
Not knowing anything about this movie before renting it, I had no idea what to expect. It has two actors that I know (Kilmer and Dorf) so I figured it can't be all that bad; well, I was wrong.
This movie was amazing! It has good acting, and did a good job of making you care about the characters. Where it really shines is how it depicts just how jail can actually be: how violent it is, how the rules are different ect.
Like the title of my review says, it's a crime if you DON'T rent this. If fact, I'm calling the cops to come pick you up right now unless you press that "zip it" button.. :)Gritty Prison Film - kav2001c
Very well done film, which although it does lose something in the last bit still maintains a good pace and suspense.
A man defending his home kills a robber with a baseball bat. He is told its easier to plead no contest as a jury trial would take years; years he would rot in prison anyways. So he agrees and gets 3 years away from his wife and son.
While in booking he gets in a fight, and branded a troublemaker gets sent to a more serious prison. He witnesses a crime, and when he wont testify against the gang leader he ends up making enemies on all sides.
His only hope lies in an aloof killer who doesnt really want to make any friends.
