Nights in Rodanthe
It's never too late for a second chance.
Adrienne Willis (Diane Lane), a woman with her life in chaos, retreats to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to tend to a friend's inn for the weekend. Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink the conflicts surrounding her - a wayward husband who has asked to come home, and a teenaged daughter who resents her every decision.
Almost as soon as Adrienne gets to Rodanthe, a major storm is forecast and Dr. Paul Flanner (Richard Gere) arrives. The only guest at the inn, Flanner is not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience. Now, with the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

Nice romance - hometheater
Despite what others have said in their reviews, I liked this movie as a romance. The Inn was unique and the location serene. The relationship that blossomed between Adrian and Paul changed both their lives. The ending was unexpected and had us all choked up.Not Enough - tvcrazy
While I haven't read the book that this movie is based on I can only hope and imagine that it is better than this movie. To be clear I think that the storyline had a lot of potential but Diane Lane and Richard Gere just lacked the chemistry and the punch to pull this story off. The one bright thing or performance is Mae Whitman as Lane's daughter and she really makes this movie more of what it should have been. So Zip with caution.Too Much Melodrama Spoiled the Film - Bigmoviefan
The main weakness of this movie is the story. I predicted each twist and turn of the plot (not that there are that many), including the obligatory ending. Richard Gere's character's transition from a cold and unresponsive person to the one that Diane Lane's character can fall in love with is unconvincing but predictable. This is a common problem with films adapted from Nicholas Sparks novels.
Richard Gere and Diane Lane are both wonderful in their roles. The supporting actors, however, were not quite so lucky. James Franco is wasted in his extremely minor role. Viola Davis is also wasted in her role as the best friend. They had very little to do except to stand in for cardboard characters.
We all want Adrienne and Paul to find each other. We expected drama, but this is melodrama.
