I liked this film but did not love it. The Pang brothers are talented filmmakers that is very clear but this film felt a little preachy at times.
Visualy the film looks great but at times the film just draged on to a tired and predictable ending.
If you are a fan of the Pang brothers and Japanese films you might be dissapointed with this one. This is a HONG KONG movie, not Japanese - Jujubes
This is a Hong Kong movie by the Pang brothers. For once, it's a horror movie with a nice message! I found myself enjoying it.
The lead actress also starred in the orignal The Eye (remade with Jessica Alba later on) and she is very good in this one too.
I liked the underlying message which is not your typical stupid scary movies with long black hair covering the face. All in all, a nice surprise.Japanese movie - Wentai
This film was made in Japan, then redubbed and sent to the west. A strong entry and a decent film, it moved a bit slow and showed a strong emphasis on those Japanese camera shots, where the zoom in on the actors face while he looks inscrutable.
Labeling someone as inscrutable is not an insult, as many Asians think. They do not show their emotions on their faces the way westerners do.
Why is it that we are called Westerners anyway. On a globe, our country is no more west than any other one. Depending on which side of the globe you are looking at, it's just as much East of some countries as it is West.
Globes are not quite spheres; it turns out that because of gravity, the earth is flattened slightly at the poles, and a bit thicker at the equator.
Gravity on the other hand is not subjective; the apples falling on Isaac Newton's head were proof that the laws of science were just waiting to be discovered.
Being discovered is never easy, for apples or actors. Lots of people labour for ever in Hollywood only to have their dreams shattered, while talentless hacks succeed brilliantly and make a fortune in a short time.
Time has been said to heal all wounds. Technically this is incorrect; time is not mending your broken heart or your busted arm. Your body is healing yourself. Time itself is not a quantity or entity, and thus cannot conduct medical services of any type.
Medicince is a wonderful thing, something that perhaps we are lucky never existed in the old days. A famous writer once wrote that if the people of the Roman Empire had put their hands over their mouths when coughing (stopping the spread of germs) and washed their hands before meals and before greeting others, the world population today would be ten times what it is.
The romans had vast empire, with a foothold in every major continent except austrailia. Proof, perhaps, that the aussies were tough enough to fight them off. Ghurka's are tough.
