Band of Angels
Hollywood's king headlines a powerful tale that snaps the bonds of convention!
In 1939, Clark Gable played Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind. Nearly 20 years later, the King of Hollywood brought his virile charms to Band of Angels, another epic of romance and adventure set within the doomed Confederacy and based on the bestseller by Robert Penn Warren (All the King's Men).
Gable plays plantation owner Hamish Bond who has a secret past of slave trading. Sidney Poitier plays the freedom-yearning slave Bond has raised as a son. And Yvonne De Carlo is a fiery belle who goes on the auction block when her part-African heritage is revealed - and is sold to Bond. Action master Raoul Walsh (White Heat, High Sierra) directs this Civil War saga of passionate emotions and lush splendor.

Don't bother - feliper
If everything went right in Gone with the Wind, here's the flipside. Nothing at all works in this picture and that's to Clark Gable's great discredit; were it not for him, this movie would have disappeared from sight. With his presence as a slaveowner, albeit an enlightened one, this thing inevitably ends up compared to Gone with the Wind. It's a complete mess.
