How much can you really do in a lifeboat? Plenty by the looks of this movie. Though Bankhead was probably a driving performer in the movie, all did an excellent job. There was suspense, romance, comedy, and wonderous visuals considering the age of the movie. If the script had been bad, the movie would've failed, but it was benefited by solid story and writing.Great achievement - Coconut_Willy
To say that making such a movie is a challenge has to be one of the greatest understatement ever. The whole thing takes place on a lifeboat with an obviously limited cast and the situation dictates that all the action must come from within. Although Hitchcock was as limited as possible, he still was able to create some interesting shots and with the help of very good screenwriting, sustain interest and a bit of suspense for 90 minutes plus. The cast is excellent doing an incredible acting job with a great dialogue and very good characters. The sets and locations are of course minimal, the soundtrack is appropriate and the camera work is surprisingly varied despite the circumstances. I do believe that one has to be in the appropriate mood to be truly entertained but in the end, it is a very well made movie. One of the numerous feathers in the Master's cap.Funny - morlock
What would you do if you were stuck in a lifeboat with a hodgepodge of people and limited supplies? Does this sound like one of those corporate games? Well watch this movie and see how close you come to this fascinating Hitchcock tale. Shot in monochrome adds to the hopeless feel.
