I loved this film. Takes you down the road of historical american blues music. If you're not super familiar with blues music, this film will educate you on the beautiful stories of such artists as Etta James, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, and Muddy Waters. Adrian Broody is phenomenal and the soundtrack is worth putting on repeat.Okay - dnlm
With songs from Muddy Waters and Etta James featured throughout the movie the soundtrack ends up being outstanding. The movie itself was only average. The story didn't capture my interest as much as I would have liked. Jeffery Wright portrayal of Muddy Waters was pretty good though.Like a sad song that makes you cry so sweetly - swissguy
Oh Wow! if you love the blues, rock, R&B this movie is for you. I loved it. This movie is about the birth of Rock and Roll from Leonard Chess's discovery of Muddy Waters who came from the cotton fields of the south to his discovery of Etta James, from Leonard Chess's opening of his recording studio, Chess Records, to his wheeling and dealing with radio station people. The people in this film really look like the stars they portray even down to Mick Jagger. This movie, though, is so much more then just about the music, it's also about what it was like to be black in the 50's in the U.S. and about the cost of racism. It's gritty and realistic. The only problem I had with the movie is that I didn't always understand what was being said. Sometimes people talked fast and there was music at the same time or people talking all at once, or they mumbled but I still understood the story. I saw this movie in a theatre so I couldn't turn on the sub-title option but if you zip it you can. All in all a great film which I would see again because I can never get enough of the music. Beyoncé was amazing as Etta James. She can whail to bring tears to your eyes.
