Bad News: Keanu is one of the GOOD things in it. - Ernst_Bitterman
The restatement of Klaatu's mission in this film (vs. the old one's "You kids stop fighting or I'll give you something to cry about") makes the whole film moot, as he'd not really have bothered showing up, and the way in which humanity comes to be saved is cliched and not actually very effective, since about 90% of us would be dead in a month anyway. There are some good effects, and if you've not seen the superior item directed by Robert Wise you probably won't get VERY mad at this thing, but you're better off spending your entertainment dollar on the 1951 example. The best thing this film dod was put a few dollars in the pocket of James Hong.Disappointing - LadyBugAbode
I’m not familiar with the original story, but even still, I found this movie to be disappointing. Keanu Reeves seems to be stuck in the same role in every movie since the Matrix series. I adore him, but I’d like to see him play a deeper character. Jennifer Connelly wasn't much better, a little flat, not very believable. Jaden Smith did an okay job. I had a hard time caring about the characters.
The special effects were very cool, which is why I gave it 3 stars.good effects..that's about it - 2face
I hadn't watched the original so my review is based solely on this movie. I thought the special effects were brilliant especially the giant alien robot. The acting however, was kind of lame and the storyline leaves much to be desired. I expected more from Keanu Reeves, John Cleese and Jennifer Connelly. Their acting lacked emotion. It felt like they were forced to act in the movie. Jayden Smith was great though, but I didn't like how he was potrayed as a spoilt, disrespectful little bugger.
It felt like the movie stood still after the first 30 mins and then ended abruptly. I initially thought my DVD player skipped a couple of chapters at the end. The way the movie ended just wasn't right.
