Valkyrie
Many saw evil. They dared to stop it.
"Tom Cruise gives one of the best performances of his career" (Jeffrey Lyons, NBC/Reel Talk) in this action-packed film from the director of The Usual Suspects and X-Men. Based on the incredible true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise) and his ingenious assassination plot targeting Adolph Hitler, this engrossing thriller reenacts the daring operation to eliminate one of the most evil tyrants the world has ever known. Co-starring Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Terence Stamp and Eddie Izzard, Valkyrie delivers gripping suspense and pulse-pounding excitement from start to finish!

Did they need to cast Cruise as Stauffenberg? - SStones
Yes, he seemed good in Rainman, that's because Dustin Hoffman was doing such an excellent job playing autistic, Cruise needed to only play his mildly retarded self.
He's very pretty, but operation Valkyrie isn't a good story for a good-looking, bad-acting actor to make an impression with. Tom Cruise should be doing modern day Annette and Frankie beach movies until he has gathered enough wealth to retire and let himself go. If producers continue to tell him they want him in dramatic roles "Because you're so talented, Tom", he's only going to continue downward.good - Pearljam
I can happily say that Valkyrie was entirely the movie I expected it to be. Directed by Bryan Singer and starring Tom Cruise, it's a polished and well-acted work that never quite raises itself above being a taut historical thriller. One feels a deeper, more complex movie lurking beneath it. Cruise, I think, works best as an actor when he plays alpha males in personal free-fall, whose sureness of identity and place are in flux (Jerry Maguire, Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia) and elements of that come through nicely in his performance. He's a worthy core for the film. This is a good film... - Leah_J.
"Valkyrie" is an atmospheric film that accurately depicts the events of the summer of 1944 in Germany. The production, including costuming, settings, and the technology of the time, are also accurate and evocative. The supporting cast is superb and do their best to act as a foil for Cruise without overwhelming his weaker acting abilities. Nonetheless, Cruise gains strength as the film progresses and the pace accelerates - so that it succeeds in building the tensions, tragedy and emotional resolution the story requires. The viewer is increasingly gripped as the film progresses.
