Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) stars as Billy, A.K.A. Dr. Horrible, a budding super-villain whose plans for world domination continually go awry. His two goals: getting accepted into the Evil League of Evil, and working up the guts to speak to his laundromat crush Penny, played by Felicia Day (The Guild). The only thing standing in his way is Captain Hammer, Billy's superhero arch-nemesis played by Nathan Fillion (Firefly). Thank the actors guild for causing Whedon and friends for having to come up with an ingenious way to make a new form of entertainment (and to distribute it in a new way - seeing if they could monetize their efforts).
This is fun. The musical score is great. The plot is genius. The characters leave you wanting more.
In only 45 minutes you experience the joy and failures a 3-season story arc deliver. Bravo, Joss Whedon, for bringing together the cast and crew to pull this off.
Now do it again, please!Rent for the Movie - Stay for Commentary THE MUSICAL! - Mookie
I had already seen (and loved) this show for free on the internet but the DVD was recommended for its all musical commentary. This is just a creative and humourous as the actual show so it was well worth the rental. Ninja Ropes is my fav number. Overall just a brilliant idea being done by brilliant and talented individuals.Totally worth a rental! - DaisySteiner
I had mixed feelings about this at first. Did I really waste a whole Zip rental on a 43-minute production that was initially released for free on the interwebs?! Yes, but it's Joss Whedon and we like him.
Anyhoo, I was NOT disappointed. NPH is delivers a very finely nuanced performance as Dr. Horrible (his singing is better than I thought!). The music is good and the lyrics are unsurprisingly clever.
Also the special features (which are much longer than the actual feature itself) are pretty funny.
