Inkheart
Every story ever written is just waiting to become real.
Based on the book by Cornelia Funke, Inkheart is a timeless adventure tale of imagination that centers on Meggie (Eliza Hope Bennett), a young girl whose father (Brendan Fraser) has a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads them aloud. But when a power-hungry villain from a rare children's fable kidnaps Meggie's father to bring others out of the boundaries of fiction, she and a disparate group of friends both real and magic embark on the kind of adventure she has only read about in books to save him and set things right.

The film was at least entertaining and the prformances of the actors and actresses where not a distractration except for the henchmen players there seemed to deliver a base proformance. The story was interesting but along the simple and prdictable lines. Decent enough to watch with the family. REInkheartbreak - SoloSymphony
Unfortunately this lacked ... something.
The visuals were pretty great. Beautiful scenery, a wonderful castle setting; and though not very menacing, the 'bad guys' were characters with quite interesting style.
Ultimately, the 'deus ex machina' (Wikipedia it!) presented at the end was so ridiculously simple, it makes you wonder why the ..... errrrr .... ((SPOILER ALERT))
.... Why they just couldn't write and then speak out whatever they needed right from the beginning. The father character could have reversed anything he did right from the start by simply using his gift. It really is quite a silly concept once you think about it a bit.Inkheart - TheWiz
You want to like Bredan Fraser. I mean we're talking "George of the Jungle"!
Bettany, Broadbent and Mirren deliver what one expects: outstanding perfomances.
The book, if you have had the opportunity to read it, is a very clever piece of chidren's literature. It works because the book does not have to go up against what most screen writers have to contend with today: CGI.
The producers spent way too much $ on CGI on this movie and not enough on dialogue. The villains were not even menacing to my 9 year old daughter. Fraser continues to disappoint in lead roles as his repretoire of facial expressions, body language and vocal abilities have not grown.
But he's the kind of on stage person we all want to like - back to "George of the Jungle".
The ending is way too long, drags on forever, and much too predictable.
Spend less dollars on CGI people and develop your story.
Think "Maltese Falcon".
3 stars because of the supporting actors, Speirs was a good bit part as Flatnose and because the literature behind the movie is a fine piece of work.
