I remember walking in to the theatre a few years ago with dread ... I was being taken to watch Hero. I left the theatre in total admiration of the film. I loved every moment of it. My expections for Fearless were high as a result ... while I honestly don't think the movie was as well done as Hero, I think Fearless is a movie that fans of Jet Li (and this genre in general) will love. The action scenes were great (less wire-work than most other movies in the genre which is a plus for me), the acting was well done, and the sets were extraordinary (countryside and city scenes were terrific). My only complaint, and it is so minor it barely counts, was that there were times when the subtitles were too fast (this occured during scenes showing newspaper articles).
If you enjoyed Jet Li's previous offerings, you'll enjoy this one. I'm sad to see him go, but at least he went out on top ...
If you have seen the theatrical release, I do't feel like the director's cut adds much (the original is included in the BluRay). I found it a little slow and I felt that what was added in was unnecessary.Excellent - rturmel
Although I found the begining a bit slow (Director's cut) until he wanders aways from his home. I was touched by his journey; especially the part where he lives in the village in the mountains. The sequences are beautiful and I really enjoyed the way it was shot.
To add to the films credit it is also based on a true story. IMHO one of Jet Li's finnest performance both as an actor and as a martial artist.
My 2 cents.
