The Good Student
Scandal is Her Best Subject
When Ally (Hayden Panettiere), a popular teen and local celebrity goes missing, her small suburban town erupts in panic. Mr. Gibb (Tim Daly), her dorky teacher with a known infatuation with her, is the last person to see Ally and becomes the main suspect. The Good Student is a riveting thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end!

This is NOT a thriller, nor is it riveting as the AMG overview mentions. It is merely a drama with a touch of mystery thrown in. You might have to wait until the very end to figure it all out, but it's not really a satisfying ending. This a slow-paced, often dull, character piece that rarely rises above the material.
Hayden Panettiere (of "Heroes" fame) is on the DVD box cover (with Tim Daly in the background), but she isn't around for many scenes. She does, however, have a brief cheerleader moment in her father's (played by William Sadler) car commercial, but this time she doesn't have any special powers to make things more interesting. This is Tim Daly's movie, but his subdued and somewhat depressed character bored me to death. I didn't care about him, or any of the other characters even though the acting was at least satisfactory overall.
I wouldn't say that "The Good Student" is a terrible movie, but calling it "good" would be quite a stretch. This isn't a complete waste of time, but it's certainly not worthy of a Top 10 spot on your ZipList, even if you're a big Hayden Panettiere fan.
Save your time, instead of this cheerleader and skip this.
