There's something rotten at St. Donovan's High and sophomore newspaper reporter Bobby Funke (Reece Thompson) is on it like pink rubber bands on your little sister's braces. When senior hottie Francesca Facchini (Mischa Barton) solicits Funke's help tracking down a set of stolen SATs, Funke uncovers a story dirtier than the lunch lady's moustache. After he fingers the school president for the crime, Funke becomes one of the most popular kids at St. Donovan's High.
No longer known simply as the freshman who was once tied to a giant snowman penis, Funke wins the respect of everyone, from the Desert-Storm-hero-turned-educator Principal Kirkpatrick (Bruce Willis) to the kid that farts on him in Spanish class. When Francesca takes Funke to homecoming, even the in-school suspension delinquents turn nice.
But high school's not always what it seems. As Funke's popularity grows so do his suspicions. Did the president really steal the SATs? Or is Funke just a pawn in a conspiracy as complicated as adolescence itself? Determined to find the truth, Funke digs deeper and unearths the sordid underbelly of St. Donovan's. Student council members, college bookies, public school brats, everyone seems to play a part. Armed only with a learner's permit and the spirit of Woodward and Bernstein, Funke must crack the case before it cracks him.

this school is populated by quirky students, rebels and run by a dictator, with nary a parent in sight. is it a teen drama or a sam spade mystery? there's unlikely protagonist, a journalist just trying to get his story; failing once but ultimately getting to the bottom of it. there's a lot going on. after only 30 minutes of viewing I thought i'd seen the whole thing, but i was captivated enough to continue to the end. decent entertainment.Like Brick, but with a bigger budget. - KeithTalent
Fun little high-school mystery-comedy film. Definitely does remind me of Brick, which is a movie I enjoyed, but Brick is a bit darker and overall bit better for me. I enjoyed the main guy and he did a good job as the nerdy reporter digging up a big story at the school, then stumbling upon something even bigger. I also thought Mischa Barton looked pretty hot with the dark hair; was very surprised to see her boobies.more than a teenager movie, less than a mystery movie - imagination201
At first, the fact that it was set in a highschool with all its angst and traditional cliches turned me down, but when I reached the investigation and that it became clear that it was just a front for an investigation intrigue that had nothing to do with who will go out with whom, I got intrigued and stuck in.
And it totally was worth watching :)
Bruce Willis is excellent, but the young rookiee that plays the aspiring journalist is also excellent.
A good movie to discover with your teens!
