Splinter
It Will Get Under Your Skin
In this film sure to make audiences shriek, the horror is just beginning when a young couple is carjacked by an escaped inmate and his lover. But the criminal isn't the most dangerous thing on the trip; a mysterious, parasitic creature stalks the two couples, and a small convenience store doesn't prove to be much of a haven from the menace. Toby Wilkins, who won awards for his short film Staring at the Sun, makes his feature directorial debut with Splinter.

An enjoyable creature feature. Splinter's a great slice of small location horror. trapping 4 people who don't particularly like or trust each other in a small place is always a good recipe for a movie but than add in a horrible monster forcing the people to work together and you've got yourself a meal! really great practical effects work on the monster and the after effects of contact with the monster are great to see in this age of low budget CGI. there are one or two silly laps of logic with the characters that pretty much happen just to keep the movie moving forward but nothing too horrible. check it out if you're a fan of movies like John Carpenter's The Thing or Feast.Splinter was cracked... - JuicyFruit
I don't know what the other reviewers who say this was a good story with good acting and so on are on about but it was one more ripoff of the Thing and a thousand other movies. The writing was really bad- virtually all the situations were laughably stupid, the characters were barely one-dimensional (and really irritating), the acting was okay, but with bad characters actors can only do so much; the ONLY half-decent things were that the cinematographer was good as were the effects people but then the 'creature' and its bits weren't overall original or new either, just sort of cool-looking. Overall, I'd give it a 2 out of 5 if that- don't waste your time unless you just want a bad horror that's at least not cheap-looking...Great Creature Feature! - Khartoum
Very entertaining! A little reminiscent of John Carpenter's The Thing, if I had to pick a movie to compare it to. The creature effects were very well done too, old school too & not a cheap looking "follow-the-tennis-ball-and-pretend-its-a-hideous-monster" CGI fest. I don't want to give anything away, but after you watch it, check out the extras to see the footage on how they did the movements.
For the most part the acting was acceptable, some scenes better than others & the same goes for the plot. It's a monster movie, so don't be too particular! Not the fastest pace, but at the same time it's survival/horror in isolation, so I think the pace suits the film well.
Anyhow, I thought it was great fun & I will watch it again sometime :)
