North Star
Where land is power... and revenge is obsession.
Nome, Alaska, in 1889 teems with new riches, but not for Hudson Santeek (Christopher Lambert of Highlander and Mortal Kombat). Hes run up against an unwritten Golden Rule: mining boss Sean McLennon (The Godfather's James Caan) has the gold and he makes the rules. In this wilderness action saga directed by Nils Gaup (Pathfinder), McLennon falsely claims the rich lode Hudson vows to protect because its on sacred Inuit land. Hudson has McLennons mistress (Catherine McCormack of Braveheart) taken hostage after McLennon and his murderous gang strike at him. Mushing through storms, clambering up glassy cliffs, hacking to the surface from beneath an ice-capped lake, Hudson scrambles to stay alive and lethal. McLennon may have firepower. But in North Star territory, its Hudsons fighting savvy thats good as gold.

Your Average Western Set In The North - newdaysof
Christopher Lambert of Highlander fame plays a white man raised by Indians in Nome, Alaska who fights the greedy mining association president played by James Caan. Catherine McCormack of Braveheart fame, plays the girlfriend who gets caught in between the power struggle.
Filmed mostly in Norway, there are a lot of outdoor scenes with dog-sleds and chases over snowy mountains and deep woods. The film is alright but it could have been much better if there was a decent soundtrack and if they spent more time developing the characters. But instead, we're left with a plain-vanilla western set in the north.
