Based on a true story. A man with a cannibal fetish places an online ad looking for someone willing to be butchered and devoured. He ends up meeting someone. A few years later an American journalist tries to write an article about the whole thing. The editing was good and the overall sense of darkness was well maintained especially in the scenes involving the two men. Unfortunately it was presented in English and Keri Russel (from TV’s “Felicity”) was completely unconvincing as the journalist.2 Stars - bleuorchid21
Grimm Love is the story of a graduate student doing a research paper on Oliver, a man who meets another man from an internet cannibal messageboard. He then harvests the man's flesh (upon his agreement).
The movie itself goes back and forth between the past and the present, with flashbacks of the events which took place, and with Katie's almost obsession into the events (wherein she shacks up at Oliver's house and watches what happened unfold via video).
Overall, the movie provides little gore and the movie just ends with no sort of conclusion to it.Well Executed, Flawed Script - nw_kiff
"Grimm Love" is about a student doing a research paper on a famous incident in Germany where two men met on a message board and agreed to allow the one man to cannibalize the other. The story follows the student, and the lives of each of the two men leading up to the incident. The acting is pretty good, and the cinematography is also solid when they aren't adding fake grain and scratches to flashbacks which cheapen some scenes I feel. There are two main problems with this movie. 1) The student storyline, where she researches the incident and seeks the famous video of it, goes absolutely nowhere, and in fact could have been cut out of the film and let us have more time with the two men behind the incident, who are far more interesting. 2) The film ends on a poor note, a rather cheesy moment that kills some of the drama and tone of the film.
But why 3 stars? Well, the movie is well-acted, and the stories of the two men are well-acted, well-paced. This isn't an action heavy film at all, far more dark and dramatic and it's very interesting when the story is focusing on their lives. A straight story about their two lives without the student researching their crime storyline would have been much more effective, but instead we end up with a film that is at times very good and very frustrating at others.
It is worth a watch for people who enjoy their slow-burn style horror films, where everything leads up to the end of the film.
