Is Anybody There?
Ten-year-old Edward lives in his family-run retirement home. While his mother struggles to keep the family business afloat and his father copes with the onset of a mid-life crisis, Edward leads an increasingly lonely existence until he meets Clarence (Caine), a retired magician and grieving widower who refuses to give in gracefully to old age. The two strike up an unlikely friendship that helps them both remember what magic is possible when life is lived to its fullest.

I thought I was going to be watching a movie about magic, a movie about a young boy's growing up and into himself. But, it was mostly about an old guy and his lost love. While not terrible, there wasn't too much redeeming about this one. For a better old guy film, watch the Bucket List.Someone had to be there - Plonquer
Another one of those cute, heartwarming cookie-cutter stories- elderly grump (man or woman) softens up as they impart wisdom to a young boy or girl.
Sadly, people of the latter age group very seldom watch movies like this, so they remain none the wiser. And it confirms to us curmudgeons that we still have some value. Thanks- I needed this.
Well, now we know where Harry Brown went after his YOB-killing spree and that lady police officer started getting wise to him. He entered the witless protection program as a retired magician!
And thus made amends to the younger crowd.
Good for you, Harry!Superbly entertaining - Treehouse
A tremendously authentic film with a nicely balanced story line. Bill Milner, playing Edward the young boy, was brilliant and his interplay with the ever-solid Michael Caine was terrific. Nicely done, a joy to watch, touching, and funny in just the right places.
