I am a Jarmusch fan. Loved Mystery Train for example. But what to make of this? The critics are no guide. Some should have had their depends on watching this they were so upset[e.g., Ebert gave it an all time low for him like 0.5/5]Several hypothesis: 1. JJ had a bad hair day doing this, trying for something but missed badly or maybe too much chemical stimulation at the time 2. Its the anti spy/Bond film..satire at its best 3.Its a Warhol/Downey Sr film like the one filming a person sleeping or Putney Swope..camp, pure send up but making a point 4. some kind of existential riff like Antoinini tried.
Whatever,at times it has a hyponotic quality, some interesting characterization with Bankhole, the nude woman, Tilda Swinton over the top. Some neat cinematopgraphy by Chris Doyle.
Would I recommend this to any friends? No.But glad I saw it. Wont forget it in a bizarre way.
Goodness, what next for JJ? Who will bank roll his next one?Boring as heck - Dragonlord
This movie was supposed to be a spy movie? The movie starts slow and just drags along. I dont mind watching a movie in english or one with subtitles but a movie that is half english and half subtitles is annoying. There is no action and a bunch of pointless nudity all in all a pretty big waste of time. Don't bother with this movie unless you are looking for something to help you sleep.Boring, and a complete waste of time - john5
Some nice cimematography does not rescue this vain attempt at some sort of existential cinema, which fails utterly. A really stupid movie.
If you want to see what this movie could have been, rent "The Hit" with John Hurt, or "Ghost Dog".
Don't bother with this one.
