Rudo y Cursi
Life is a coin toss.
Tato (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Beto (Diego Luna), two brothers living a hard life of manual labor in rural Mexico, have a simple dream of saving enough money to build their mother her dream house. But fate has other plans; a friendly game of soccer leads to first one, then the other being taken on by the nation's top talent scout, Batuta, and gives rise to the first of many emotional head to heads between brothers.
Suddenly, they find themselves living the high life of star athletes—fame, riches, fast cars, and beautiful women. But every dream has a dark side, and when they are forced to compete on rival teams, bitterness brews between them. Mutual trust gives way to resentment and betrayal, while the dangers of their wild new lifestyles threaten debt and the safety of their entire family. In the end, all will ride on the one big game between their two clubs. Tato and Beto must face each other on the pitch but also reunite again as brothers before they lose everything they had once dreamed of.

This is a sad film. It's about the Mexican society of the day where people dream of soccer, and of breaking away from poverty. The "nice guys" are naive and reckless. The others are cynical, cruel and corrupt. The only ray of hope comes from your friendly local drug lord. You must have a really twisted sense of humour to call this a comedy.Funny, Worth Watching! - marcela
This movie is about two brothers who work in the banana industry in rural Mexico are given the chance to play soccer in the major leagues in the big city. This is where they run into troubles, such as how to handle lots of money, gambling, sketchy people who are in to take advantage, including women.
There are a lot of great lines that you can only appreciate if you understand the language. The subtitles were completely inadequate and after a little bit, we were forced to watch the movie without subtitles, so as not to detract from the movie.
Still, it was a great movie, the ending was sad, but shows how life can tur out, with no fairytales. Worth watching, I enjoyed it.Dark Comedy - SAllende
Rudo and Cursi about two soccer-playing brothers who live in poor rural Mexico. The younger brother Cursi is a fantastic goal-scorer and the other is a tought goalie.
They are soon discovered and play in the big leagues, but they are unfortunately ill-equipped to handle fame and money.
It is very clear that they are going to encounter troubles and disappointments.
The movie is neither a pure comedy nor a pure upsetting drama. They are certainly comedic moments, but I have a feeling that a lot of the comedy comes from the nuances in the language, e.g. slangs, tones, etc. After all, the characters insult each other a lot, and I have a feeling that the subtitles could not exactly translate the humour.
That is not to say that this movie is not funny for an non-Spanish person. All I am saying is that I am sure it is even funnier for a person who speaks Spanish.
