Drag Me to Hell
Includes Both the Unrated and Theatrical Versions
Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is on her way to having it all: a devoted boyfriend (Justin Long), a hard-earned job promotion, and a bright future. But when she's forced to make a tough decision that evicts an elderly woman from her house, Christine becomes the victim of an evil curse. Now she has only three days to dissuade a dark spirit from stealing her soul before she is dragged to hell for an eternity of unthinkable torment. Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man and The Evil Dead Trilogy) returns to the horror genre with a vengeance in the film that critics rave is "the most crazy, fun and terrifying horror movie in years!" A Real Hoot! - RobBC
With her eye on the bank's new Assistant Manager position mild-mannered Loans Officer Christine Brown is determined to show her boss that she can be a hard ass executive type by foreclosing on the home of an old woman who was late with one too many payments. Unfortunately the gnarled phlegmy senior in question just happens to be a vindictive gypsy witch who gets her revenge by sicking an evil demon on Christine who suddenly discovers she has only three days left before the hoofed and horned fiend...drags...her...to...HELL! Aided by a pair of ESL spiritualists an increasingly desperate Christine wages battles against malevolent shadows and flying crockpots while her devoted boyfriend looks helplessly on. But will she be able to dispel the curse before time runs out? A midnight trek through a stormy graveyard may hold the answer but astute viewers will have guessed the "surprise" ending long before then. Sam Raimi returns to his gross-out roots in this deliriously overdone horror romp crammed full of spewing eyeballs, vomited maggots and mouthfuls of sticky green pus. He's fashioned a great old-fashioned splatter film whose outrageous effects and ghoulish sense of humour ("...here kitty kitty kitty...") had me jumping and chuckling throughout.Worth a Good Scare! - CowgirlC
I was a little hesitant at first when I zipped this film, but I did because it came highly recommended from a friend. This movie is a blend of odd horror, and a bit of comedy, as per usual with Sam Raimi scare flicks (see Army of Darkness, Evil Dead part 1 and 2).
I was pleasantly surprised by Drag Me to Hell. Although at times it seemed a little campy, I was finding myself hiding my eyes under the covers throughout a lot of the movie. It's definitely one of those "jump out of your seat" kind of flicks. To boot, it's higher budget than the previously mentioned Raimi films, and even has the quirky Justin Long (the Apple Commercial guy) in a main role.
All in all, it's a good watch for horror fans!Drag Me To Hell - RogerDaniels
It’s interesting how simple a horror film looks when it’s made by someone with competent filmmaking skills. Horror films nowadays aren’t concerned with scares, they’re concerned with screaming, and gore, and naked girls. However much I enjoy a bad 70s horror film, it’s sad that films considered B-movies back in the day have become the mainstay of the genre. "Drag Me To Hell" is a true horror film. It’s not interested in dousing the audience in blood after arousing them with the sight of stripping teenagers. It’s interested in scares and playing the audience in order to get bigger ones. Sam Raimi understands horror and humor; any person who’s seen the "Evil Dead" films can second that. He knows how to play the audience like an instrument, to lure them in with surmounting tension, to make them relax with a well-placed gag, then to assault their senses with genuine scares. "Drag Me To Hell" is a very straightforward horror film. Its story is familiar and its characters as well. It’s formulaic but it works beautifully. Ultimately, it’s a trim 99 minutes that scared me and made me laugh more than most films in the past two years. "Drag Me To Hell" is a return to classic horror and a most welcome return at that.
