The Grudge 3
You can't escape the curse.
Kayako and Toshio's curse continues by haunting The Grudge 2's only survivor, Jake, who's now confined to a psychiatric hospital after his family's alleged suicide. When the curse of the grudge finally kills him too, news reaches Kayako's sister, Naoko, in Japan. As Jake's case worker, Dr. Sullivan (Shawnee Smith, the Saw series), investigates his Chicago home, the curse continues to claim more victims. As the rage spreads, it becomes clear that Jake's horrifying stories are true, and Naoko is the only hope of finally burying the grudge once and for all.

The first American version of Grudge was quite effective and I enjoyed immensely. Then of course # 2 comes along and completely suck the life out of the series, and # 3 sadly puts the nail in the coffin. Some disturbing visuals aside, this movie was so lacking in actual tension, I think it should be classed as a "drama" rather than "horror". Unless they are going to do a complete reboot on this series, enough of the cat howling weird little boy, and frog croaking mother; they are not scary anymore and herky jerky movement thing, very creep in #1 has completley lost its effectiveness. 2 out 5 stars. The Grudge 3 - AppsScraps
Toby Wilkins directs this middling thriller originally conceived by Takashi Shimizu. As is wont with American adaptations of Japanese movies, the fact Americans cannot understand the subtlety of Japan nor its culture, turns these flicks into very basic horrors. They are all style no substance unlike the original which had both style and a depth of substance that was, in itself, hororific. In this latest version, set in a Chicago apartment complex, our creepy little lad returns as a precursor to the arrival of the evil spirit Kayako. Meanwhile Kayako's sister Naoko (Emi Ikehata) heads to Chicago to put an end to the curse once and for all. There she meets Lisa (Johanna Brady), her brother Max (Gil McKinney) and their wee charge, the sickly Rose (Jadie Hobson). Let's just it all ends, um, predictably with plenty of room - sadly - for Grudge 4.
Well filmed in the spirit of the original but poorly acted (Ikehata, aside), Grudge 3 gets my rating of 5 out of 10.
